N.C.  review:

Not to be confused with Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Scary Stories is a documentary about the history of Alvin Schwartz’s children’s horror series and the impact it had on a generation of young readers.

Like many Xennials and Millennials, I credit the Scary Stories books with igniting my interest in reading and in the horror genre. It was for this reason that I was so excited to watch this documentary. I was not disappointed. Scary Stories features interviews with Schwartz’s children, his contemporaries, the artists and authors who were inspired by him, and the woman who tried to get his books banned.

I would recommend this film to fans of documentaries and to 80s and 90s kids who enjoyed reading the Scary Stories books as children.
